Privacy Policy

Last updated 7 June 2026

This policy explains what personal data Why Marketing collects, why, and what rights you have over it. It is written to be read, not to bury the point.

Who we are

Why Marketing is a B2B commercial advisory practice founded by Alan Edwards, based in Hove, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Why Marketing is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at alan@why-marketing.com.

What we collect

We only collect what we need:

  • When you request a gated resource: your first name, last name, job title, company, and company email address, along with which resource you requested and the date.
  • When you contact us: your name, company email, company, and the message you send.
  • Your marketing preference: whether you have asked to receive occasional insights from us.
  • A functional cookie: a single first-party cookie that remembers which resources you have already unlocked, so you are not asked again. It does not track you.
  • Standard server logs: our hosting provider keeps basic technical logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and reliability.

We do not knowingly collect special-category data, and we do not ask for it.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To deliver what you asked for and to respond to you. When you request a resource or send an enquiry, we use your details to send the asset, reply, and follow up about that specific request. Our lawful basis is legitimate interest, and taking steps at your request.
  • To send you marketing. We only send occasional insights and updates if you have actively opted in. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who processes your data

We keep our supplier list short and use reputable processors who act on our instructions:

  • Netlify hosts the website and runs the form-handling functions.
  • Supabase stores the resource and lead records and the resource files.
  • Resend delivers the emails we send to you.
  • Google Workspace runs our business email.

We do not sell your personal data, and we never will.

International transfers

Some of our processors are based outside the UK. Where personal data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep lead and enquiry records for as long as we have a relationship with you or a legitimate reason to, and no longer than necessary. You can ask us to delete your data at any time and we will, unless we are required to keep it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access your data, correct it, have it erased, restrict or object to its use, and request a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email alan@why-marketing.com and we will respond within the statutory timeframe. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

We use one strictly necessary, first-party cookie to remember unlocked resources. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Any website analytics we use are privacy-first and cookieless, so no consent banner is required. If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent first.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
