This notice explains what personal data Why Marketing collects, why, and what rights you have over it. It is written to be read, not to bury the point.

Who we are

Why Marketing is a B2B commercial advisory practice founded by Alan Edwards, based in Hove, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Why Marketing is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at alan@why-marketing.com.

We collect only what is necessary to respond to an enquiry, deliver a requested asset, and run the site.

Why we collect it, and our lawful basis

We process this information on the following bases under UK GDPR:

  • Legitimate interest, and taking steps at your request, for responding to enquiries and delivering assets you have asked for.
  • Consent for occasional marketing insights, given only if you tick the optional box, and withdrawable at any time.

How it is stored, and who processes it

Your data is held securely and shared only with the processors needed to run the service, each acting on our instructions under its own data-processing terms:

NetlifyWebsite hosting and the serverless functions that handle forms.
SupabaseDatabase for resource and lead records, and storage for the resource files.
ResendTransactional and notification email.
Google WorkspaceOur business email.

Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent standard contractual clauses. We do not sell your personal data.

How long we keep it

We keep lead and enquiry records for as long as we have a relationship with you or a legitimate reason to, and no longer than necessary. Server logs are held only briefly. You can ask us to delete your data at any time and we will, unless we are required to keep it.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  1. Access the personal data we hold about you.
  2. Have inaccurate data corrected.
  3. Have your data erased, where applicable.
  4. Restrict or object to processing.
  5. Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
  6. Withdraw consent for marketing at any time.

To exercise any of these, email alan@why-marketing.com and we will respond within the statutory timeframe. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

We use one strictly necessary, first-party cookie to remember unlocked resources. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Our website analytics are privacy-first and cookieless, so no consent banner is required. If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent first.
